Every year, many officers are killed in the line of duty, leaving their families and co-workers to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help these survivors rebuild their shattered lives.

Originally organized in 1984 with just over 100 members, C.O.P.S. has grown to a membership of over 60000 survivors including spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and co-workers of fallen officers.

C.O.P.S. knows that a survivor’s level of distress is directly affected by the agency’s response to the tragedy, and therefore offers training and assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide on how to respond to the loss of a member of the law enforcement profession. Governed by a national board of law enforcement survivors, all programs and services are administered by the national office in Missouri while over 50 chapters work with survivors nation-wide.

C.O.P.S. is a 501(c)(3) is a non-profit organization funded by grants and donations, who doesn’t take any membership fees, because the price paid by survivors is already too high!
